Wir schreiben die Sternzeit Juni/2011 und erreichen Mikrokosmos "Dorf". Und dort wird gefeiert. Dorffeste können schlimm und ordinär und gewalttätig sein. Dieses nicht. Dafür gibt es so illustre Wettbewerbe wie Hähnewettkrähen, Kuhbingo und Wettmelken.

Ich möchte an dieser Stelle erwähnen das diese Plakette des zweiten Platzes zu einem im Familienbesitz befindlichen Hahn gehört!

Man kann einen Tag sehr unterhaltsam verbringen, ohne das Haus zu verlassen. Auf dem Balkon erzählen mir die Amseln empört was die Tauben nun wieder angestellt haben, die Meisen kommen ab und zu mal in die Küche um sie Reste aus dem Abfluss zu picken und zielsicher wieder rauszufliegen. Die Spatzen sind nicht ganz so zielsicher, einmal drin brauchen sie meist eine Stunde und ein paar Häufchen bis sie die Balkontüröffnung wiedergefunden haben. Doch das ist nach hinten raus. Die Vorderseite, zur Straße hin bietet feinstes Abenteuer, so dass man manchmal glauben mag, man wäre nicht in Leipzig, sondern in der Bronx. Wilde Verfolgungsjagden von Ladendieben, beatboxende Schwarze, jugendliche Prügeleien - alles schon dagewesen, gern auch mitten am Tag. Der gute Mann in schwarz auf dem Bild kommt täglich. Er wohnt meist auf der Wiese neben der Kirche hinter in der nächsten Querstraße und kann sich nicht mehr so recht artikulieren und schimpft recht viel und laut wenn er die Straße runterläuft. Der Gartenzwerg davor ist allerdings neu. Er saß nur eine gute halbe Stunde auf der Straße, packte einen Campingkocher aus und ging danach wieder seiner Wege.

Ich brauche dringend ein Kissen, damit ich mich bequemer aus dem Fenster lehnen kann. Und eine Kittelschürze. Und eine graumelierte Dauerwelle.

Über mein Leben kann man aber auch ganz wunderbar auf Deutsch berichten. Genug der Aglophilie (auch wenn mich die als alter Anglistikhase wohl nie so ganz loslassen wird...). Ab jetzt schreibe ich in meiner eigenen Sprache. Da das leider nicht HTML ist, wird es aber noch ein bischen dauern bis ich auch die Seite umgestellt, aufgehübscht und mit allem was gut ist versehen. ....is, unsuspected, a pretty entertaining movie! It's a bit cheesy sometimes, but never boring or dry. I may be the only person in the world with that opinion, but I don't like Colin Firth that much. Men who look like schoolboys at the age of 50 are weird to me. Still, Oscar or not, the movie is worth watching it. And Geoffrey Rush is aweseome. And Helena Bonham Carter...I just love that woman.

Rosslyn Chapel is a tiny old church close to Edinburgh, built in the 15th century and filled with beautiful work of stone masons. Unfortunately, it is a crucial part of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and crowded with tourist...Instead of noticing the beauty of the old stone carvings, they are looking for signs of free masons, Templars and conspiracy theories. It's overcrowded with school classes and tourists, so sad.

Spreepark was the only entertainment park in East Germany. It was running for several years after the wall came down, until the park owner filed for bankruptcy in 2001. He escaped with many of the attractions to South America. Nature wins back the rest of the park since then. For the first time in 8 years the park was open now for Luna Land, a techno party. I felt like an 8 year old again when walking around there. So fantastic, like a different world. This is what the world must look like after all humans disappeared.

I have this special person in my life since a little while and it was about time he had to see the place where I grew up, so we took a weekend to stroll through Berlin. We started with some tourist sights - I can't even remember the last time I played tourist here. That is because I'm in Leipzig a lot, but even when I'm at home - who walks around watching tourist sights in your own city? Noone really takes the time for that.

My city changed a lot recently....

It's quite a shame but I never visited the Holocaust Memorial since it opened 5 years ago. It is an interesting place but it doesn't really work as a memorial for me. The ones at the Jewish Museum are much more effective here.

By the way, it's nice having a boyfriend who likes photography as well - for the first time in ages I am in a lot of pictures, too :)

My cousin and me at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer last weekend. The organizers were pretty euphemistic to call it "Fun Run", but we both made it in a good time. For the first time I had the opportunity to run at Siegessäule and Straße des 17.Juni, between all sights of Berlin. Feels pretty cool, even for a Berliner.

Loud, full, but fun and kind of weird as they played at a theatre audience - I've never been sitting in a punk concert before. God, these guys are OLD now. So am I, I guess. Excuse the pun, dear audience, and hold your breath as this is one of the rare occasions of Mary-goes-to-a-hiphop-concert AND loves it. I saw Dizzee Rascal playing at Astra in Berlin on Saturday, it was amazing. I'm still on rehab mode from the weekend, so I will just post a little bad-quality video I made for now. Blurryness gets better after a few seconds.

It must be every HipHop-dudes dream to make a concert in front of a green draped curtain, right? Reminds me a bit of the assembly hall in my old school (pun intended).

Dear City of Weimar, I am a little disappointed. Besides the fact that the weather was terrible, and cold and wet and awful, I kind of expected a bit more from a place stuffed with history than about 40 Goethe-and-Schiller-statues all over the place...I also don't agree with the policy to close every important or interesting building at about 5 o'clock. Which was the time we arrived. So, all I really got was some wanted and some unwanted street art and a tiny but nice cemetery.

Dear Polarkreis 18, you really suprised me! I expected basically nothing from your concert but light entertainment but it was pretty much amazing. What a nice suprise. Sound was bad though, it is even worse in my little video below, but the orchestra was great and the concert was really nice.

A little visit to Tierpark, Berlin's other Zoo. It's actually prettier and less full than the Zoo in the centre. But it was way too hot and everyone was suffering in the heat....Have to go back some other day and give it another try.

!!! (Chk chk chk) totally proved me wrong. I thought this band is some kind of semi-retarded, noisy electronic something, but they were crazysexycool. The singer could also be that guy from the Scissor Sisters and he can move his hips like Elvis the Pelvis, hilarious. The music was also MUCH better than I expected.

Fever Ray. You may have noticed I have a thing for The Knife and Karin Dreijer. Fever Ray is her solo project, the album sounds basically like The Knife but her voice is simply very original. Still, Fever Ray is much more quiet and calm. The show was wonderful, grandma-style lamps all over the stage shining to the beat. Unfortunately, the sound of Bloc Party from the other stage was pretty disturbing. Their new album is rather boring and unoriginal, by the way....

Technopicknick. Trying to dry out. The weather was a disaster, especially on Friday night. Rubber boots are the shit but they also gave me the biggest feet ache in years. New look of the summer: Rubber boots and hot pants.

Röyksopp were awesome. Their album is on heavy rotation, both on my Ipod and in the store. Ben and me were so happy and excited when Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife/Fever Ray) entered the stage to sing both This Must Be It from the new album Junior and What Else Is There.

Aphex Twin was all psyched and crazy, as expected. It was kind of weird having him on the big stage with Hecker, it didn't fit 100 %. Would have been better on one of the smaller stages.

The little Leipzig version of Get Loaded in the Park. Campusfest with The Kilians, Miyagi, A Heart is an Airport etc. Supercrowded and fun, unfortunately the sound was pretty bad....It's great to stroll over these huge campus area (that I never see because my institutes are totally somewhere else) and hangin out at a canteen-turned-dancefloor.

PopUp in Leipzig last weekend. I forgot my camera at home so all I have is some crappy mobile phone pictures from Maximilian Hecker and Kissogramm.

Someone should really tell Herrn Hecker to shut his mouth between his songs. Seriously. That was the crappiest shit I heard someone talking between song since I've been to a Kassierer concert when I was 15. Still, the music was surprisingly good. The usual "I consider myself the German Damien Rice"-stuff, but the band really rocked into noise inbetween that.

Kissogramm really rocked, too, a surprise as well. For some reason I mixed them up and I thought they were something electronic. But it was actually fun indie rock, a nice surprise. I like electro, but I'm really a bit tired of it - now that even Spiegel Online has a electro column, it will probably be dead soon.

Of course, these weren't the only bands. There were also Art Brut, September Leaves, Sugarplum Fairy etc.etc., all that little Indie rock stuff plus some good parties after that. Nice one, little PopUp. Much more like a family meeting than Popkomm.

Ouweeee. Sounds like I want to go a concert. I just read on Pitchfork that Juliette Lewis and Cat Power are touring together. Now that Chan has her shit together and doesn't have nervous breakowns on stage anymore, this might really be interesting. As ususal, Pitchfork doesn't say WHERE they actually play, so it might be one of these US only things and poor European me is locked out... I hope not! I would LOVE to watch a Cat Power concert that is more than 10 minutes long and Juliette Lewis is always fun on stage.

Being social - barbecue in the countryside and going out in Tartu.

A warm welcome in the middle of nowhere, delicious saslok and grillvorst - the best way to get your vacation going.

We didn't all die after dinner, we just visited a little cemetry in village that was really called Ahja.

A crazy little jazz concert at Genialistide Klubi in Tartu. The club is much more like a big student apartment than like a real club, but its cozy and it offers great concerts and fun parties.

The "kissing students", Tartu's more or less famous monument. Tartu is an old university city with a history that goes backinto the 13th century. As everywhere, students basically seem to be busy with making out and drinking, so the statue seems quite fitting to me :)

A 19th century piano with Tartu's old German name, Dorpat, on it.

This tiny area of Tartu is called Suppilinn, soup town, because its streets are all named after things you can use for soup - tomatoes, potatoes etc. It was also the poor peoples district in the past, who could only afford soups as proper meals. Until today, there are only this beautiful little scandinavian wood houses around here and most streets have no asphalt, only sand.
