I reign the chaos

I'm going into my last semester of university now and I thought it would be a good idea to sort things out and get a system....naja. Not a big success so far. I live in this state since two days now but I'm very optimistic this will change soon - at least in summer for my final exams :)

Some more impressions from the end of the world

No, it's not the arctic circle this time. It's my little home village in the north of Germany again. Just to prove that city girls like me know how cows look like.

Hot Chip vs. Joy Division

This made me smile this morning. Hot Chip play a slightly cheesy, still very good version of Joy Divisions Transmission. It is part of a cover compilation for the charity organisation War Child. You can't download it, but listen to the song on Pitchfork.

Summerism

I love winter and the snow, but right now i really wish it was August and I was right here...

Winterism

Some impressions of post-minus 26 degrees Leipzig. It was around -3 so you could leave the house. All rivers were frozen and the sunshine was beautiful so I went out and got my feet superwet while taking pictures.

Leipziger Pferdebahn 1891

I got this nice thing as a present yesterday. It is a map of the tram in Leipzig from 1891, when the trams were already running in tracks but still pulled by horses. Besides map and timetable the tiny advertisement is really the funniest part - you can buy felt hats, hunting rifles or engage a professional photographer who comes with a giant box camera.

Norway

I made a road trip to the north cape and back a couple of years ago, on foot with my backpack and an old Praktika camera that took these pictures. If it wouldnt be so super heavy I would still carry it anywhere because its really hard to find a quality non-digital camera like these old things today...

Tiny village close to the north cape. Probably Santas reindeers walking around there.

Mosksstraumen, or Maelstrom, is a tidal whirlpool close to the Lofoten Islands. Its one of the strongest tidal whirls in the world and became famous in Edgar Allan Poes short story. There's a bridge going over it, about 40 m high. You have an awsome view from up there - and you can't imagine how loud the thing is.

Clouds hanging over the a little lake, about 1300 m above 0.

Bob, the porcino

This is one of my little treasures in my vintage children's book collection. It tells the story of Bob, a little mushroom, on his way through the forrest where he meets all kinds of other mushrooms, from friendly chanterelles to nasty, poisonous fly agarics. The book wants to teach children the difference between good and bad mushrooms and other food you can find in the forrest. It is from 1948 and there is probably a simple and practical idea behind it - food was rare and bad in post-war Germany and going into the forrest was a usual way to get something healthy to eat. Today, it's mostly a sweet old book and I really love the pictures and all the cute mushroom characters in it.

Leipzig past

I found these little treasures when checking a box with old pictures. Unfortunately, the scan quality is not the best, still a funny impression of my current "hometown". Pictures were taken around 1979.
